Letting Go of Preconceptions
Recruitment can feel overwhelming, especially with all the talk about the reputations of different sororities—both on your campus and beyond. When I went through the process, I made a conscious decision to block out the noise. I didn’t research rankings, reputations, or what each chapter was “known for.” Instead, I let my own experiences shape my opinion. Looking back, that choice made all the difference.
Being 100% Myself
Some PNMs go into recruitment already connected with older members, hoping those friendships will give them a better shot. I took a different approach. I didn’t seek out members beforehand or try to “network” my way in. Instead, I presented the same version of myself to every chapter—no performance, no trying to fit into what I thought they wanted, just me. That authenticity helped me find the chapter where I truly belonged, surrounded by girls who connected with me for who I am, not for who I was trying to be.
Why an Open Mind Matters
Going in with an open mind allows you to fully experience recruitment for what it is: a chance to find the sisterhood that genuinely feels like home. If I had let outside opinions influence me, I might have missed out on the chapter that ended up being the perfect fit. Keeping an open heart and trusting the process led me to friendships that felt natural and real.
Final Advice for PNMs
If you’re about to go through recruitment, my biggest piece of advice is this: don’t let preconceived notions make your decision for you. Be yourself with every chapter, and trust that the right one will see and appreciate you for who you are. At the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to get a bid—it’s to find a sisterhood where you feel truly at home.
